What happens in the studio does not stay in the studio

So I love learning about what goes on beyond the curtain. If a TV show or movie puts out bloopers, behind the scenes images or cast interviews about how something came to be from the project, I’m glued to it. I don’t think seeing how a Disney attraction works or knowing the story of the many rewrites of a book ruins the magic. It’s so fun to be welcomed into the grit and grime. What you don’t see in my art space won’t always be shared yet I feel like I can give you a little to a point. Here are a few bits of the grit, the grime, the mess, the stress and the beautiful background chaos.

Dozens of sketchbooks stacked in haphazard Jenga style buildings on several tabletops that house the past five years of good, bad and just damn ugly reject drawings and ideas that may or may not ever see the light of day.

Doubt, self-sabotage, guilt, anxiety, coping skills, pouting, fidgeting, and foul language.

Cat sheddings….fur, claw sheaths, whiskers, vomit (all cleaned up, I promise you).

Cucumber water, Bubly cans, protein bars, mixed nuts, crackers and the occasional candy or Cherry Coke.

iPad, iPhone, earbuds and charger.

Kleenex, napkins and paper towels for all the crying and spilling

Alcohol markers, Sharpies, fine tip drawing pens, colored pencils, drawing pencils, pencil sharpeners, pencil shavings, scratch paper, printer paper, posterboard, Post-It notes, notepads, dry erase pads, light pads, clipboards, binder clips, rulers, scissors, Scotch tape, masking tape, cat toys, photos, lights and lamps, tripod, butt cushion, back cushion, tchotchkes, candles and a lighter (in case I want to set a frustrating art session on fire, light the candles and have a margarita).
